Rate Calculator App

Product Overview

Figma

The Rate Calculator, a tool provided by Old Republic Title, allows Title Agents to generate quotes. I was tasked with redesigning the legacy Rate Calculator to align with the layout of the current product, ezJacket, while maintaining the same Telerik/Kendo framework. The redesigned version is now live and in use.
Throughout the redesign process, I gained insights into the various use cases of the Rate Calculator. This led me to believe that a standalone mobile app for the tool would greatly benefit users. As part of this initiative, I designed a concept for a mobile app version of the Rate Calculator.

Mobile App Concept

For the mobile app concept, I explored breaking out the cards from the desktop version into individual screens. Earlier iterations attempted to keep all the data on one page, but it quickly became clear that endless scrolling and cluttered layouts made for a poor user experience on a smaller device. By splitting up transaction details, policy categories, CPL, endorsements, and other sections, users could focus on one step at a time. I also introduced a stepper to clearly show their progress, and labeled the action buttons to indicate what the next section would be — helping users stay oriented and prepared.

The desktop version features a rolling calculator on the right side, providing a running total as amounts are added. I wanted to preserve that functionality in the mobile experience. Given the limited screen space, I reimagined it as a collapsible drawer at the bottom of the screen. Users can expand it at any time to review their totals without losing their place. In the desktop workflow, selecting “calculate” updates the rolling total, and users can then save or generate a PDF quote. Since the rolling calculator isn’t persistently visible on mobile, I added a dedicated summary screen for the final total after calculation. From there, users can save or generate their quote, maintaining feature parity with the desktop experience in a way that’s tailored for mobile.
